Rough Start

This pregnancy had a bit of a rough start. After a faint positive on an at home test, it took two blood tests over the course of a week to determine that HCG levels were indeed doubling every two days. The Dr's office was very hesitant to tell me that yes I was pregnant. They kept holding that last firm confirmation back because there was a slight chance that something would go wrong. I got the phone call on Friday Oct 5 at 5:30 PM. The day before my 34th birthday.

Two weeks later I was back in Dr's office limbo. I had gone in for a 6 week ultrasound. A nurse/tech had done the u/s and not given me any information while doing it. Other than she could not see the baby. I was told to wait for the Dr and he would explain. No Dr came. Just a nurse saying th Dr had ordered another HCG test to see where my levels were. "What does this mean?" I asked. "We wont know until we see the levels." I was told. This is getting frustrating.

Several days later I was told my levels were good and I needed another u/s. I was going to get another test, but not at this office. I didn't like the way they worked and the fact that I had never seen a Dr.

I did switch and at an 8 week u/s, I was able to see a little bean with a healthy heartbeat.

I am now enjoying full-blown first trimester symptoms. Nausea set in at 7 1/2 weeks. All day long nausea. No vomiting, but there have been a few close calls. Pretzels seem to help and tomato juice tastes good again. I cannot even look at peanut butter and cooked spinach is off the list.

We are still holding our breath until the first trimester is over. So many friends have had miscarriages that we are being really cautious and waiting to tell people. I think we needed this time to get used to the idea ourselves too.
